Captain Ahab, Part I

Having embarked on my “Read ‘Moby Dick’ this year” resolution, I thought I’d attempt my spin on a Captain Ahab illustration. I’ll admit, it’s a welcome distraction from some of the more, um, detailed parts of the book.
These are just preliminary: simply a scan of the original hand drawing, and the rough vector outlines for the base. Hopefully the end result will have the lush, distressed feel of those old whaling ship paintings. We shall see, matey, we shall see…
The new blog
After a year spent tinkering with this blog, I’ve decided to focus my efforts on documenting my own attempts at creating, rather than compiling yet another “inspiring links” list. I thank Twitter for this epiphany (surprisingly, it is useful for some things); I simply grew tired of creative people spending huge amounts of time retweeting the exact same “cool things”. Didn’t these people create anymore? Weren’t they, at the very least, creating less? More importantly, shouldn’t I be creating more?
So, here’s my line in the sand (or, blog): whether it’s photography, doodles, work brainstorms, or thoughts… they will only be mine.
